Fishbowl Conversations
A collection of critical conversations
Creative Hull: Fri 16 – Sun 18 July 2021
A ‘fishbowl conversation‘ is a format of participatory communication to help facilitate discussion within large groups. Lots of people can easily contribute to the conversation by asking questions, sharing ideas, offering opinions and listening to and acknowledging the perspectives of others.
We aimed to facilitate conversations about Absolutely Cultureds Creative Hull event in this way! All information about ‘Fishbowl Conversations could be found on our website, and the word shared across social media on the run up to, and during, the Creative Hull weekend.
Through a series of workshops and guided questions, The Critical Fish asked the people of Hull to share their thoughts and creative responses over social media and email.
Event attendees, participants and makers were challenged to think about the work they encountered deeper than they might usually. We made signs to accompany each of the artworks on display, and put on three different workshops designed to stretch how participants approach and think about art.
We did not set out expecting anything in particular, rather treat this participatory project as an experiment, to see how we could connect ideas and responses around art in a new way, across a city, across an event.
